Ibori London Trial 2: Ibori’s Wife Can’t Afford To Pay Her Lawyers As Trial Commences >> Sahara reporters

The Southwark Crown Court received unusual traffic last Wednesday when Ian Winter QC, the counsel to Ibori’s UK lawyer, Bhadresh Gohil, filed an urgent motion asking for Mr. Gohil to be tried independently of Ibori’s first wife, Theresa Nkoyo. Mr. Gohil and Theresa, along with Udoamaka Okoronkwo-Onuigbo, are part of the second of Ibori’s extensive money laundering crimes in the UK. That trial, regarding a charge for which Ibori now faces extradition from Dubai, is billed to commence in just a few weeks from now.

Apart from the economic and image-related alibis adduced by Gohil for the urgency of his motion, it turned out that the major problem is that Theresa Ibori's solicitors are now 'off the record' because she is now unable to pay her legal bills. This means that, somehow, she has to find new solicitors urgently, because her trial date has now been fixed for June 28, 2010 and there is going to be a mention at Southwark Crown Court 8 next Wednesday, June 2. Theresa will have to explain to the judge what efforts she has made in finding new legal representation. 

Eager to distance himself from Theresa becoming a liability to him and in order to avoid delay in the start of his trial, Gohil elected to be tried on his own. His lawyers claimed that his health and reputation have been severely damaged due to the impending court hearing and that any further delay could tip him over the edge. However, the judge stated that even if he were sympathetic to Mr. Gohil's application to be tried on his own with regard to the Theresa charges, there was still the third trial involving the V-Mobile scam in November 2010 looming. He therefore denied Mr. Gohil’s application.

The emerging destitution of the former First Lady of Delta State is an irony of sorts as she lived a lavish, larger than life good time in the state while her husband robbed their people blind. She even had an athletics competition, “The Nkoyo Ibori Championships”, named after her. It is hosted at the Oghara Township Stadium annually. Interestingly, the ongoing London case has exposed how Ibori’s cousin, the current Governor of Delta state, Emmanuel Uduaghan and the former commissioner of sports, Solomon Ogba, in the state, connived in the looting of the treasury by awarding bogus sports contracts to his female associates.

The name of Mr. Ogba, who is currently the chairman of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria, which organizes the Nkoyo Ibori Championships, featured prominently in the case. Mr. Ogba was found to have opened accounts with HSBC bank in London; he used Christine Ibori-Ibie’s address at the bank as his home address. This was all part of a running track sports contract which Ogba signed off and ultimately, he got his share of the money deposited in his London accounts. Asked in court how she could have lived in London and executed government contracts in Nigeria, Christine had no answer.

Ibori is said to have abandoned his first wife and mother of five girls to her fate in London, even as he made money available to his mistress, Udoamaka Okronkwo, to prosecute her case in court. A family source told Saharareporters that it was an open secret that Ibori encouraged his wife to travel to London knowing that she was wanted, as a means of off-loading her. Their relationship had gone very bad as of the time of her arrest.
 
 In 2008, Ibori reportedly also tricked Udoamaka to travel to the US through France. In France, she was picked up on a European warrant, thereby clearing the way for Ibori to marry a younger lady, Senami Sosu. With Senami, he traveled everywhere until his recent arrest in Dubai.

Prior to marrying Senami, Ibori had fathered his only son with the daughter of a former federal judge, Uju Ononiba, whom he met at the wedding of his pal, Joe Obue even in the presence of Udoamaka his mistress. It was not clear if Uju married Ibori, but family sources said she was well taken care of. He set her up in style in a mansion in a suburb of Washington DC.

Last week at the Southwark Crown Court where the three women associates await their fate in their money laundering case in the hands of a jury, the once arrogant and aggressive Udoamaka, who delighted in putting up elaborate shows on the court premises, had lost her mojo as well as a lot of weight. It was obvious the three-month trial had worn out the defendants. The jury is expected to resume deliberation on Tuesday, June 1, the day before the mention of the trail of Theresa Nkoyo is scheduled to be made.

As per Ibori, the UK metropolitan police are working to file for his extradition within the 30-day window required by UAE/UK extradition treaty. The UK police insisted that they are not working with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Nigeria regarding Ibori’s extradition, contrary to the persistent misrepresentation being created by the EFCC in the Nigerian media. Nigeria does not even have an extradition treaty with the UAE, making it even more bizarre that the EFCC continues to claim that they are working to extradite Ibori to Nigeria.

A source told Saharareporters that EFCC’s activities around James Ibori in Dubai and Nigeria may well serve the purpose of strengthening Ibori’s claim of political persecution. UK sources in Abuja told Saharareporters that they consider the reported asylum claim by Ibori to be laughable since he faces no danger of political persecution the UK where his case is purely a criminal case. In addition, our sources said, in the UK he has a chance to prove his innocence or otherwise in an open court where his personal safety is not in jeopardy.

EXPOSED: The real reason Minister of Petroleum reorganized NNPC via huhuonline.com

Huhuonline.com can say that all is not well within the oil sector. In less than sixty days, under the leadership of Shell prodigy Mrs Dezeani Allison-Madueke, the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has gone through two group managing directors. Mrs.

Allison-Madueke, whom President Jonathan chose as Petroleum Minister over two men with impeccable technical credentials, is in the middle of a bitter war with her former business associate, now foes, as she tries to rescue her family business.

Information gathered by Huhuonline.com reveals that Mrs Allison-Madueke has muzzled the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR), forcing it to not comply with a court directive ordering DPR (a subsidiary of NNPC) to put a lien on all financial operations of the Eremor offshore field OML46 operated by Excel Exploration and Production Company Limited. Retired Rear Admiral Allison-Madueke, husband of Mrs Allison-Madueke, is the Chairman of Excel.

Sources revealed to Huhuonline.com that Mrs. Allison-Madueke removed all the decision makers in DPR, who supported the enforcement of the lien on her husband’s firm just days after she was sworn in as Petroleum Minister. Huhuonline.com learnt that her initiative was tagged by the slogan “new appointments for new loyalties”. The new Petroleum Minister however, avers that the restructuring is with a view to “greater efficiency in line with the aspiration of the President, Mr Goodluck Jonathan, for the oil and gas industry in Nigeria.”

Huhuonline.com understands that Alphin Fleury & Partner, an independent privately owned company incorporated in Zug, Switzerland in February 2000, was hired by the London office of the NNPC to organize financing for several Nigerian companies operating marginal oil fields. In theory, the extraction of oil or gas from marginal fields is reserved for Nigerian companies but largely financed by foreign companies.

Huhuonline.com investigation reveals that Alphin Fleury & Partners secured a twenty million dollar facility for Excel Exploration and Production Company Limited for Eremor field in OML46, plus the payment of two million dollars access bonus to the three shareholders of Excel, from the British finance firm Afren; with the understanding that they will be paid two hundred thousand dollars (1% finders fee by shareholders). But after Excel shareholders received the funds, they refused to honour the agreement.

Consequently, Rear Admiral Allison-Madueke’s and two other shareholder of Excel Exploration and Production Company Limited were cited by Alphin Fleury & Partners for failing to pay its fees and obtained a court ruling in its favour. In calling for a lien on financial transfers involving Eremor, Alphin Fleury & Partners hopes to recover its money.

The development of Eremor, which contains 30 million barrels of oil, has been funded since 2007 by Britain’s Afren Oil Company. Eremor was discovered by Royal Dutch/Shell, to which Excel has close links. It should be recalled that Mrs Alison–Madueke was previously in charge of external relations for Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria.

Meanwhile, Mrs Allison-Madueke has remained elusive on the matter and contact with her has been unsuccessful. However, when Huhuonline.com contacted Alphin Fleury & Partners, Mr. Pierre Fleury said:

“This is an unfortunate situation which is causing concern to those interested to invest in Nigeria and a challenge to those that pretend that you can obtain justice in Nigeria like anywhere else. In 2003 and 2004 when Excel obtained the farm-out for Eremor Field in OML46 they looked for financing. First, they found Mart Resources. This relationship did not last for all kind[s] of reasons. One of them being that the CEO of Excel, Mr. Awosika is a very difficult man to handle".

"Excel contacted us then in 2006 and after a good year of work we obtained for Excel (July 2007) that (sic) Afren Plc develops and finances Eremor Field. We were supposed to be paid a finder fee as per contract signed with Excel. We were confident that this would be paid without problem since we had obtained for Excel the payment of an access bonus of USD 2M".

"Unfortunately Excel started arguing that some interpretation of our contract could allow them to walk away from their commitment. After lengthy discussions they informed us that if we are not satisfied by this situation we should go to court".

"We decided to hire the law firm of Charles Musa. After weeks and months of litigation we finally obtained from Excel in front of the Lagos Multi Door Court House (LMDC) on September 15th, 2008, a compromise signed in front of the judge (Mrs. Yinka Aroyewun) and signed by Excel".

"In that compromise we had to abandon USD 50,000 in our fee and the balance would then be paid in 5 instalments between October 15th, 2008 and May 15th, 2009".

"Could we be more accommodating…?"

"Excel made payment of the first 2 instalments and decided to stop paying [in] early 2009 since he [they] started to have problems with Afren and actually it seems that Afren was considering moving away, not so much from Excel and Eremor but much more away from Mr. Awosika. Anyway, the agreement in Court was valid until there would be any kind of termination between Afren and Excel".

"Such termination has not happened prior to May 15th 2009"...

"Face[ed] by this refusal to pay we decided to enforce the judgment. But LMDC, being a new Court system, there (sic) was no enforcement procedure in place. Our only alternative was to go to the High Court [to] have the LMDC judgment be validated by the High Court and then enforce against Excel"!

"The High Court confirmed on 29th of June 2009 the LMDC decision. Since then we are trying to enforce this judgment. Excel is today looking for new financing notably with Capital Alliance in Nigeria and [to] try to avoid any publicity in order to preserve its chances to find new funders".

"We finally decided to put a lien on the farm-out title early this year. [The] process was long and for some reasons the DPR is asking us to explain our case and then is asking Excel to provide explanations. It is as if the DPR wanted to judge this matter again"...

"I need to stress that since the new elections have brought new ministers the DPR does not communicate with us anymore. [It] remains clear that the lien is in place whether or not Excel and the DPR agrees or disagrees".

"As you can see we are far away from a bogus case. Excel has signed [an] agreement in front the judge at LMDC. The high Court has confirmed the judgment. Sooner or later Excel will pay us and we shall not give them any chances to walk away from their signature".

"Please be informed that the Swiss Embassy in Abuja is following up this case as a good example of how the legal system works in Nigeria and how well the interests of foreigners are protected in this country”.

However, the call on Nigeria’s Department of Petroleum Resources to put a lien on all financial operations concerning the Eremor field operated by Excel Exploration & Production in regard to OML46 by the Swiss firm Alphin Fleury & Partner, has continued to raise pertinent questions and concerns within the international investment sector, as to the effectiveness of rule of law in Nigeria.

The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) salutes all its operatives who at great risk, successfully planted and detonated two (2) car bombs at the venue of the Vanguard Post Amnesty conference in Warri, Delta state. Three such bombs of varying strength were planted at this venue. It was unnecessary to detonate the third and most powerful bomb as our operatives noticed the participants at this jamboree fled towards the direction of the last bomb.

Any attempt to detonate this bomb would have resulted in great loss of life. This bomb is being preserved for future use.

All who participated in this operation, safely returned to their respective bases.

After receiving the baton of ignorance from his Bayelsa state counterpart, the governor of Delta State declared in the Vanguard newspaper of February 22, 2010 that "the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) is a media creation." This assertion coming from the same person who claimed publicly that an oil pipeline can be destroyed by one man armed with a bottle of petrol, is hardly surprising. What is surprising is how he managed to obtain a science degree.

Thinking of no better way to announce our continued presence in the Niger Delta to Mr Uduaghan, operatives of MEND today March 15, 2010, successfully breached the security at the Delta state government house in Warri and planted three explosive devices in and around this compound which is the venue of the Vanguard Post Amnesty Dialogue organised by the Vanguard newspaper.

These devices will be detonated remotely.

In our usual effort to prevent the loss of innocent life, the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta advises the immediate evacuation of the the Government House annex Warri and its immediate surroundings up to the Delta state Brodcasting Corporation.

The time given for this evacuation before the detonation of the first bomb is thirty (30) minutes which will elapse by 1130 hrs Nigerian time. The primary school bordering the government house annex should be evacuated immediately!

The first bomb will be detonated at exactly 1130 hrs. We will thereafter advise on the other devices planted within and around the venue of the vanguard newspaper organised and Delta state sponsored conference. Organisers and participants at this jamboree will ignore this warning at their peril !!!

People must not remain in their cars and attempt to drive their cars and maintain safe distance from all cars and the area!

The deceit of endless dialogue and conferences will no longer be tolerated. The lands of the people of the Niger Delta was stolen by the oil companies and Northern Nigeria with the stroke of a pen.

The vanguard organized and delta state sponsored conference is one of such tools of deception. The Niger Delta has been partitioned into oil blocks which have been distributed amongst mostly Northerners while indegenes of the Niger Delta can barely survive. One such example being General T.Y. Danjuma.

It is common knowlede that no southerner can lay claim to an inch of land in the North so why should we continue to talk as the occupation of our land and theft of our reources by the oil companies and Northern Nigeria persists?

The governors of the Niger Delta are shameless and visionless stooges who are more concerned with looting their state treasuries and seeking a second term in office, even against the wishes of their people.

MEND will attack any such gatherings designed to propagate more falsehood. Members of the public are hereby warned to avoid such gatherings as they may not be fortunate to have a warning before detonation.

She became known for her greed to hold onto power at all cost, this same woman reportedly said “her husband would rather die in office than be ex president” Mrs Yar’Adua prevented everyone including Umaru Yar’Adua’s own mother and sisters from seeing their own blood. She had on several occasions used her loud-mouth as weapon of insults on elder statesmen who insisted or suggested Umaru Yar’Adua complete obedience to the constitution. Yusuf Tilde is the notorious Chief Security Officer to the President. This Bauchi born former Director of State Security Services is hand of Esau in this charade. Yusuf Tilde is described as conservative but reasonably intelligent with good writing skills. He surreptitiously handles affairs for Mr. Yar’Adua and has become one of the president’s most trusted aides. Yusuf Tilde assumed presidential functions by prerogating himself the right to treat files, endorse documents, and grant presidential approvals on behalf of the president whose failing health hampers productivity. Mr Tilde is highly corrupt and has enriched himself immensely. Yusuf Tilde is the Executor in Chief of the Cabal (ECC)

James Ibori
James Ibori is a former governor of the oil rich Delta State, a career thief who feasted on Delta State collective wealth. James Bond as widely called is a man who should not have been governor but-for the nature of Nigerian politics. James Ibori started his criminal career in 1990 the UK; he was convicted on several fraudulent offences which include Credit Card Fraud, Identify Theft, Dishonesty, Roofing Sheets Theft, amongst others. James Ibori spent more than 10 billion naira of Delta State earnings on Umaru Yar’adua’s 2007 election, that investment brought him very close to the family. He currently faces criminal proceedings in the UK and Nigeria courts. James Ibori is the Chief Financier of the Cabal (CFC)

Dethroned Attorney General of Federation and Minister for Justice. Chief Aondoakaa is better known as the Attorney General of Fraud due to his various meddling in cases that offered him bribes. Mike Aondoakaa used his office as weapon of intimidation and gateway of bribes. He defended those who could meet his financial demands & prosecuted any who did not meet his outrageous demands. Dr Ruma is visage wise baby-faced but corrupt Minister of Agriculture in Yar’Adua’s snail-presidency. Ojo Maduekwe is a career political prostitute who seems to bed different governments no matter the ideas behind the government. Ojo Madukwe defended the incapable Yar’adua when he appeared on BBC hard talk by telling the world, he was a part of the few that wrote the 1999 constitution. Ojo further told the world there is nothing wrong if Yar’Adua chooses to stay away from the country as long as he wanted, because he is not obliged to fulfil the section 145. Chairman of Dangote group, A greedy monopolist who facilitates his proximity around any seating government so to protect his tax evasive business dealings. Death Toll In Turkey Earthquake Rises To 57 - Update

(RTTNews) - The death toll in the earthquake that struck eastern Turkey Monday morning has risen to 57, according to officials and local news reports.

The 6.0-magnitude tremor with its epicenter located in the village of Basyurt in Elazig province, struck at 4:32 am local time at a depth of five kilometers. Until now, more than 40 aftershocks have followed the pre-dawn quake.

The tremor was also felt in the neighboring provinces of Bitlis and Diyarbakir, but most of the causalities were in the villages of Okcular, Yukari Kanatli, Kayalik, Gocmezler and Yukari Demirci.

While quake reportedly destroyed the hillside village of Okcular, it left the nearby villages badly damaged. Some 17 people were reported killed in Okcular, where up to 30 houses collapsed in the quake.

Provincial Governor Muammer Erol said that rescue and relief teams have been rushed to the affected area, where most people live in mud-brick homes built on hillsides. He added that buildings made of cement or stone suffered only minor damages.

Turkey's Deputy Prime Minister Cemil Cicek has rushed to the quake-hit region, accompanied by Health Minister Recep Akdag, Housing Minister Mustafa Demir and State Minister Cevdet Yilmaz, State-run Anatolia news agency reported.

Residents in the quake affected region have been advised not to return to their damaged houses because of the continuing aftershocks. The largest of the aftershocks measured 5.1 and 5.5 on the Richter scale.

Following Monday's quake, Turkish government's disaster management agency and Turkish Red Crescent have set up tents across the affected region to provide shelter and relief to the survivors, and are distributing food and blankets.

Earthquakes are frequent in Turkey, which is located on the the North Anatolian fault line. Though the quakes are generally minor, a strong 7.4-magnitude tremor that struck the north-western city of Izmit in August 1999 left at least 17,000 people dead.
