Cultist Embrace Amnesty in RiversRivers government on Tuesday concluded the first phase of the state Amnesty Programme as 22,430 cultists accepted amnesty in the state.
The government also disbanded all vigilante committees in the state with directives to the security agencies to take charge of scrutinising such committees.
Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers announced this during the submission of the report of the Rivers State Amnesty Programme by its committee in Port Harcourt.

"We Asked Judges To Step Down After Seeing Evidence" - Chief Justice of Nigeria On Suspended Justices

The Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Mahmud Mohammed,has revealed that the National Judicial Commission (NJC) asked judges facing allegations of corruption to step down because it was confronted with proof of evidence against some of them.
He said that the decision showed the desire of the judiciary to preserve its independence.

Nigerian Army Chief Weeps As Army Buries Heroes

The Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai wept as he gave an emotionally speech at the burial of seven soldiers recently killed in a Boko Haram attack at Malam Fotori, Borno state.

The Army chief’s voice cracked while speaking during the gloomy military burial ceremony of the soldiers, which reflected the painful mood at the Nation Military Cemetery in Abuja on Monday.

Buratai in his speech said: “here lie the bodies of our fallen heroes; Lt. Co. Muhammad Abu Ali, Staff Sgt. Muazu Ibrahim, Sgt Husseini Jafaru, Sgt Okon Bassey, Cpl Chukwu Simon, PTE Salishu Lawal, and Able Seaman Patrick Paul.”

He said: “These gallant soldiers were inducted into Operation Lafiya Dole in 2014 to form the pivot of the counter insurgency efforts of the Armed Forces of Nigeria in the North East.”
